HARRISBURG – At the state Capitol today, Rep. John Schlegel (R-Lebanon) took the oath of office to represent the 101st Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He fills the seat vacated by Rep. Frank Ryan, who retired in November after three terms.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of the 101st District and one that I take very seriously,” said Schlegel. “In conversations with my constituents, they have expressed concerns about the economy, government spending and the preservation of our personal freedoms. They also support measures to ensure energy independence and an education system that prepares students to be productive, responsible citizens. I will keep these goals in mind as I navigate my first term as a member of the General Assembly.”
Now retired, Schlegel has served as high school teacher, coach, school administrator and active community volunteer in Lebanon County. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Kutztown University, a master’s degree in education counseling from Millersville University and a doctorate in education administration from Temple University. Schlegel taught American history and coached in Northern Lebanon School District. He served as assistant principal at Steelton-Highspire Junior/Senior High School, principal at Palmyra High School and Swatara Junior High School, and as the director of secondary education at Cornwall Lebanon School District. He and his wife, Ruth Ann, live in Cornwall Borough and have two adult sons.
Schlegel invites constituents to stop by his district office at the Lebanon Valley Mall or call 717-838-3823 with any state-related questions or concerns. His office is open Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Residents may also receive updates on Schlegel’s legislative activities on his website, RepSchlegel.com
