About Rep. John Schlegel

In November of 2022, John Schlegel was elected to serve the citizens of Lebanon County’s 101st Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Schlegel has served as high school teacher, coach, school administrator and active community volunteer in Lebanon County. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Kutztown University, a master’s degree in education counseling from Millersville University and a doctorate in education administration from Temple University.

Schlegel has taught at every level from kindergarten through graduate school. He taught American history at Northern Lebanon School District and served as assistant principal at Steelton-Highspire Junior/Senior High School and Lebanon High School. He served as principal at Palmyra High School and Swatara Junior High School, and as the director of secondary education at Cornwall Lebanon School District. At the collegiate level, Schlegel has worked with student teachers at Lebanon Valley College and taught first year doctoral students at Drexel University.

Now in his second term as state representative, Schlegel serves on the following House committees: Education, Children and Youth, Human Services, and Aging and Older Adult Services.

In February of 2025, House Republican leaders cited Schlegel’s knowledge, leadership and appreciation for vocational education in naming him chairman of the Education Committee’s Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education (CTE). He was tasked with examining ways to make vocational education more available across the Commonwealth.

In July of 2025, he was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Committee for Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Related Disorders (ADRD). The advisory committee supports the new Office of ADRD within the Pennsylvania Department of Aging (PDA) to address a growing health crisis in the Commonwealth.

In his many roles, Schlegel continues to focus on controlling state spending, providing a quality education system for Pennsylvania school children, protecting long-term care and at-home services for senior citizens, as well as our constitutional rights to free speech and bear arms. He aims to work collaboratively with his House colleagues for the betterment of his constituents and all Pennsylvanians.

Closer to home, he is involved with several community groups, including the American Heart Association of Lebanon County, Lebanon County Christian Ministries, and Zion of Iona United Methodist Church Council of Lebanon County.
